There's a lot to love about autumn, but not everybody finds apple orchards and pumpkin patches appealing. If you crave a more exciting experience, don't hesitate to celebrate the cooler weather by hunting. Keep the following suggestions in mind as you prepare for the ultimate fall hunting trip:
Dress for the Weather
Fall hunting adventures are enjoyable, in part, because the weather is so comfortable. The heat of summer has dissipated somewhat — even in South Texas. Still, autumn weather can be highly variable, so you'll want to plan your hunting wardrobe accordingly. Likewise, you'll want to come prepared with insect repellant. While bugs tend to die down in some regions after September, they remain pesky in South Texas through November.
The Quality of the Hunt May Depend on the Species You Target
Ideal hunting season varies somewhat from one species to the next. Deer hunting season launches in November, while pronghorn antelope hunts may be available as early as September 30. In general, late fall is preferable — but there are still plenty of opportunities available earlier in the season. In Texas, hunting is a year-round endeavor.
